Forging : more examples

In previous article which shows the k2 hubs, we can see the raw forge is far from the machined part. It is not representative of the forging process. This process allows to have raw parts really close to the finished parts.

Also 3D forging allows to create parts with inner and outer shape from raw forging. This process is perfect to make light and strong stem.

Hubs : body

I draw these hubs for the bike trial. They had to be very light and strong.
The strain is very high because of the specific chain and brake forces in bike trial.

Here is a comparaison of the classic hubs and the one used on the Botoxx named K2.
On the right : classic version
On the left : k2 version optimised for the competition.

The body shape and the thickness have been optimized in order to make the body lighter.
The front hub bearing have been decreased in order to win some weight.

These hubs are made from forged raw body.
This process has two avantages :
- Less material lost during the machining
- The mechanical specifications of the material are increased.
